che riportava i dettagli della scoperta, diceva un’altra cosa sul luogo della scoperta:

1. Im Mai dieses Jahres arbeitete seine Mannschaft im Hafen von Alexandria. In fünf Meter Wassertiefe stieß sie dabei auf eine bräunliche Tonschale mit neun Zentimeter Durchmesser.
   

Mi sembra quindi scontato come un oggetto trovato in fondo al mare non possa presentare un’iscrizione così nitida. Inoltre, ho parecchie perplessità anche sulla tipologia del testo. Non sono un epigrafista di greco antico, ma è evidente come le lettere siano intagliate con troppa perfezione per un testo su una coppa di duemila anni fa.

You don't need a microscopical analysis of that inscription: of course, it cannot be so neat if the object was found under the sea. Moreover, I also find the carving of the Greek letters to be quite unusual--I mean, too perfect--for a text on a 2,000 year-old cup. You don’t need a trained eye in Greek paleography to see it’s a hoax.
